Project Summary

Mirador Drive – Pleasanton, CA

This remodel of a late-1990s family home in Pleasanton focused on clarity — simplifying a previously segmented layout into a cohesive, open-flow living space. Without expanding the home’s footprint, the design reorganized key interior spaces to prioritize light, movement, and gathering. Walls between rooms were opened, thresholds widened, and underutilized corners reimagined as storage, seating, or transitional space. The kitchen was fully reworked to become the central hub, with custom cabinetry, warm finishes, and direct sightlines to the family and dining areas.

Beyond the spatial improvements, the palette was curated for warmth and timelessness: oiled oak floors, matte black accents, soft white walls, and layered lighting throughout. A reconfigured entry and updated stair rail help welcome visitors with a quieter, more modern aesthetic. This remodel exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform even well-worn suburban typologies into environments that feel intentional and aligned with everyday life.

Design Notes

The original home had generous square footage, but poor flow. A big part of the effort was identifying underused space and giving it purpose—turning dead-end hallways into storage walls, and excess formality into warmth. We emphasized simplicity and warmth in materials, using oiled oak flooring and handcrafted tile to give the house texture and presence. Lighting was softened and layered to create zones of comfort throughout the day.

Testimonial

"The house finally works for how we actually live. There’s space for our kids to spread out, spots to hide from the chaos, and a kitchen that’s finally the heart of the home. We didn’t realize how off it had felt until it was right."
